Baseball Opens Spring Florida Trip With 16-6 Loss to Point Park

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Roosevelt University baseball team began its spring trip to Florida with a 16-6 loss to Point Park University (Pa.) on Saturday, February 26 at Lake Mrytle Park.  The loss dropped the Lakers record to 1-4 on the year.

Point Park scored four runs in the first inning and two more in the third to take an early 6-0 lead.  The Lakers pulled a run back in the bottom of the third when Daniel Gutierrez singled home Andrew Olszewski, who led off the inning with a base hit.

The Pioneers blew open the game with a nine run fifth inning to take a 15-1 advantage.  Point Park only registered three hits in the inning, including a grand slam, but were helped by four walks and three batters who were hit by pitches.

The Lakers added four runs to their total in the bottom of the sixth with Gutierrez tripling home Jesus Gomez to start the scoring.  Trevor Heinlein drove in Gutierrez with a base hit, Aaron Cook singled in Nick McAlister, and Olszewski drove in Heinlein with a base hit of his own.

  • The Lakers have now lost their last three games
  • This was the first meeting between the Lakers & Pioneers since March 7, 2011 when Point Park swept a doubleheader
