Baseball Overwhelms Lincoln To Sweep Sunday CCAC Twinbill
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Roosevelt University baseball team returned to action at Ozinga Field on Sunday, March 21, sweeping a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from Lincoln (Ill.) in convincing fashion behind 28 runs of offense and stellar starting pitching.
The Lakers rode three home runs, a strong complete-game performance by starter Noah Mathias and a 13-hit barrage to defeat the Lynx handily in the opener, 18-2. In the nightcap, Roosevelt needed a few more innings to get the offense going, but a five-run fourth ignited by Matt Donahue's go-ahead triple with the bases loaded set the stage for eight runs across the fourth and fifth innings in support of a strong start by Jordan Mikolajewski as the Lakers clinched a doubleheader sweep with a 10-2 win.
Aaron Cook homered, drove in five runs and finished with six hits in eight at-bats during a tremendous showing at the dish across both games by the senior from Hammond, Ind. Cook's offensive surge paced Roosevelt's hit parade, as the Lakers churned out 13 hits in each game.
Mathias and Mikolajewski allowed just one earned run apiece across 13.0 innings pitched by the Lakers' starters on Sunday.
