Bruce Turpin Tabbed To Lead Women's Hockey Program
CHICAGO – Bruce Turpin will join Roosevelt as the new women's hockey coach, the university announced Tuesday morning. Turpin will officially begin in his new role on July 22.
An active member of the Chicagoland hockey community for more than two decades, Turpin has worked with a range of hockey players during his coaching career. He has owned and operated SportSciTek, Inc. since 2005 where he has coached and managed hockey camps, clinics and private lessons for a host of clients that include local club programs, Chiefs Hockey Club and the Chicago Blues. The Canada native has been the Director of Hockey Operations at Chiefs HC since 2013, overseeing the club's player and coach development.
At the high school level, Turpin was the hockey director and head coach of the York High School boys' hockey team since 2012. He's also previously been an assistant at Loyola Academy, including helping the program with its strength and conditioning efforts. For the past two years, Turpin has been the head coach of the Chicago Central (Romans) girls' hockey team.
"I am honored to lead the rebuilding of the Roosevelt University Women's hockey program," Turpin said. "I have been involved with women's hockey in the Chicago area for over 15 years, ranging from 6U learn-to-play through high school and 19U AAA. The growth of the women's game over the last several years has been tremendous and I look forward to creating an environment where student athletes thrive, develop lifelong skills, and make their mark at the collegiate level."
Turpin completed the Hockey Director program run by the North American Rink Conference & Expo in 2008 and earned his Level 5 coaching certification for USA Hockey in 2012.
He takes over the program from Steve Martinson, who left Roosevelt in the spring to pursue other coaching opportunities.
"I am pleased to welcome Coach Turpin to the Roosevelt team and eager for him to start working with our student-athletes," Vice President of Athletics and Student-Athlete Success Mike Cassidy said. "With his experience, Coach Turpin will be able to build on the progress made by Coach Martinson over the past year and continue to elevate our program."
Roosevelt women's hockey is a member of the American Club Hockey Association (ACHA) with the program competing at the ACHA Division II level.
