33 Lakers Named To CCAC Spring All-Academic Teams

CHICAGO – The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference released its 2023-24 spring All-Academic teams this week, and 33 Roosevelt University student-athletes were present on the lists.

The list includes three student-athletes who earned their fourth academic award from the conference and three who are receiving their third honor from the CCAC. There are also 10 Lakers receiving the honor for a second year and 17 first-time award winners.

The softball program had the most All-Academic honorees with 13 student-athletes, led by fifth-year senior Kate Sisson, who is a four-time honoree. Senior Samantha Norman earned her third distinction in three years of eligibility, and five juniors earned their second straight award – Brynn Dvoracek, Trinity Kelly, Isabella Walton, Emma Wokurka and Emily Zuniga. Madison Sullivan also picked up her second award while it was the first honor for Chloee Boros, Hailey Denton, Scout Kram, Anaisa Lozada and Bailee Reynolds.

The baseball team has 10 players honored by the league, including three-time All-Academic team member Kyle Winston. It was the second career honor for Nolan Boettcher, A.J. Gliwa, Luca Paolucci and Rumsey Yasin. The first-time recipients were Omar Abuelhija, Connor Collins, Ben Compton, Bryce Hayman and Danny Holloway.

The women's track & field program had four players on the team with three first-time honorees. Destiny Ashcraft, Millie Ghapson and Shelsee Isassi all earned the honor for the first time while Beatrice Bruno earned her fourth All-Academic distinction across two sports. Bruno was honored as a women's basketball player in 2021-22 and 2022-23 then was also named to the women's track team the past two seasons.

Grace Hahn is the other four-time honoree as the only member of the women's tennis team, but three men's tennis players earned their first honors. Jorge Gutierrez, Justin Magale and Sebastian Valdenaire all were named to the All-Academic team in men's tennis.

The men's golf team was represented by three-time honoree Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez and the men's volleyball program placed sophomore Daniel Magana-Huynh on the team in his first year of eligibility.

To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must have been enrolled at their respective CCAC school for a minimum of one academic year, have completed at least 30 semester hours and boast no less than a 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
