Chandler Sullivan Returns To Lead Lakers Band

CHICAGO – Roosevelt University Vice President of Athletics and Student Success Mike Cassidy announced Wednesday that Chandler Sullivan will serve as the new Director of Lakers Band, effective immediately.

Sullivan is a 2023 graduate of Roosevelt's prestigious Chicago College of Performing Arts, where he majored in musical education and minored in saxophone performance. The Woodstock, Illinois native was very active on the Roosevelt campus during his undergraduate career, participating in the CCPA Wind Ensemble, the Chamber Ensembles as well as Pep Ensemble and Lakers Band. He also served as Student Government Association vice president for the 2020-21 academic year and as the SGA president for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years.

"Our Athletics Department is pleased to welcome Chandler back to the institution as Director of Lakers Band," Cassidy said. "During his tenure as a Roosevelt student, Chandler engaged the University in countless ways in and out of the classroom, including as a Lakers Band participant, and his passion for Roosevelt is only matched by his institutional knowledge both in his academic discipline as well as the overall student experience. Chandler possesses a vision for expanding the opportunities for students to be a part of Lakers Band and I look forward to collaborating with him to turn that vision into a reality."

During his time as a student-teacher, Sullivan worked with the Warren Township High School District 121 to co-direct and organize performances for the district's jazz ensemble, its concert band as well as an adapted musical performance for the special education department. He also taught students at several middle and elementary schools in Chicago during his time as an undergraduate at Roosevelt.

"I'm ecstatic to be back working to further develop the Lakers Band program," Sullivan said. "With the support of the athletics department and the students within the ensemble, the excitement will be unmatched. I can't wait to see the ensemble continue to grow and drive excitement during athletics events. I look forward to a great year and want to thank Associate Athletics Director Kyle Decker and Mike Cassidy for sharing the vision I have for Lakers Band."
