Lakers Place Well In Outdoor Track Debut
DECATUR, Ill. – Three Roosevelt women's track runners scored points for the Lakers in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Big Blue Invite hosted by Millikin University in Decatur.
Angie Delgado scored five of Roosevelt's eight points during the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter run. The distance specialist finished in a time of 21:43.73 to finish behind a pack of three runners from the host school and two independent runners from a local track club.
Beatrice Bruno earned two points for the Lakers in her collegiate track and field debut with a strong performance in the 800 meters. The junior, who also plays basketball for Roosevelt, won her heat and finished in eighth place overall with a time of 2:33.51.
Angela Louis scored the final point of the day for Roosevelt with a 10th-place finish in the 100-meter dash. The sprinter competed in the most difficult heat both in terms of the competition and was aided by the lightest tailwind of the five heats ran in the meet.
None of the Roosevelt men were able to earn any points in a challenging season opener with Brandon Saavedra's 12th-place mark in the 5000 meters serving as the best result of the day for the Lakers. Gabriel Gutierrez participated in all three throwing events for the Lakers, finishing 15th in the hammer throw, 13th in the discus and 15th in the shot put.
Roosevelt is scheduled to return to competition on April 15 at the Green & White Invite in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
