Lakers Fall In CCAC Championship Match Against No. 20 Holy Cross
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Roosevelt put up a battle, but it was not enough as No. 20 Holy Cross defeated the Lakers 4-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference title match in Indiana on Saturday.
The top-seeded Saints quickly took the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 wins at the top-two doubles positions. At No. 6 singles, Holy Cross dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alejandra Chavez to increase the lead to 2-0. It was a similar match at No. 4 where Grace Hahn lost the first set 6-0 before rallying to make the second set closer at 6-3. Fabiola Rivas dropped her match at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1, giving the Saints another team title.
Despite the loss, the second-seeded Lakers had some chances to score some points in singles play. Rebecca Geiger and Alyssa Owens won the first set of their matches while Teodora Petrica was leading in the second set of her match when Holy Cross clinched the team victory. All three matches were then abandoned and left unfinished.
