RU Falls At Lewis In Final Non-Conference Test

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Roosevelt fell behind early in the game and could never claw back in an 11-1 setback against Lewis on Wednesday in non-conference action in Romeoville.

The Lakers (20-18) went down in order to start the game then gave up a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. Lewis scored three runs in the first, two in the second then added three more in the third and two more in the fourth to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Roosevelt was able to scratch out a run in the fifth, but the Flyers ended the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Ben Compton came up with Roosevelt's first hit of the game to lead off the fifth inning, finding open grass in left field for a single. Aiden Brushaber moved him over with a sacrifice fly then Kyle De Kerf put runners on the corners with a single into left. Danny Holloway went down swinging at a low pitch, but the ball skipped away from the catcher, allowing Compton to score on the wild pitch.

Brushaber had the only other hit in the game for the Lakers with a seventh-inning single. Holloway and James Berry both reached base on walks earlier in the contest with Berry moving up to second base on a balk in the second inning.

The Lakers jump back into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon with a critical doubleheader at Calumet St. Joseph starting at 2 p.m. Roosevelt will then host the Crimson Wave on Saturday at Ozinga Field in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
